The Yellowstone Association Institute offers seasonal Lodge and Learning educational programs throughout the year. The national park comes alive through guided learning.

One of the best ways to explore Yellowstone National Park is to sign up for a Lodge and Learning Program offered by the Yellowstone Association Institute, the not-for-profit educational partner of the National Park Service.

The programs are relatively low cost and provide exceptional experiences with wildlife and a deeper understanding of how the parks ecosystems work together.

Yellowstone Association Institute Lodge and Learning Programs

Lodge and Learning Programs offered by the Yellowstone Association Institute are geared to the seasons and range from Winter Wolf Discovery to Roosevelt Rendezvous. Summer Courses are held multiple times from May to October and Winter programs from November to April.

Trails Through Yellowstone is one of the most sought-after programs and is offered every Monday through Friday from late May to late September. Hikes are of moderate difficultly level with elevation gains of 1000 feet. Included in the program are hikes around the Old Faithful geyser basin and Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon.

“The best way to truly experience the wonders of Yellowstone is to get away from the roads and developed areas,” said Jeff Brown, director of education for the Yellowstone Association. “This is our most popular ‘Lodging & Learning’ program because it touches on wildlife, history, geology and plant life all while the participants are active.”

Lodge and Learning Program groups are limited to 9 or 12 participants. Depending upon the program children as young as 12 may participate.

Lodging, breakfast and box lunches are provided by Xanterra Parks & Resorts, the official lodging concessioner for Yellowstone National Park hotels. The programs include in-park transportation and optional evening programs by the National Park Service or Xanterra.

Additional Programs Offers by the Yellowstone Association Institute

Backpacking courses, private tours and field seminars are also offered by the Yellowstone Association Institute. Professional outdoor leaders and Yellowstone experts guide these backpacking courses allowing participants to engage in additional wilderness experiences. Small groups, including families, can arrange for their own private eight-hour Yellowstone tour, including Northern Range wildlife, natural history and geology in the Canyon and Lake Yellowstone areas or the Old Faithful area thermal features.Field Seminars typically are conducted at the field campus in Lamar Valley and in park wilderness areas.

The institute offers more than 500 courses each year.

Yellowstone Association Membership

Members of the Yellowstone Association receive a $10 discount per person per institute course and discounts in association gift shops. Through joining the association, members benefit the park and get updates on courses and happenings at Yellowstone.

More than 27,000 people across the country and globe have joined the association and helped provide $15.1 million in donations to Yellowstone.
